Gallery Sales Consultant
An established contemporary art gallery
The opportunity
We are working with a well-regarded contemporary art gallery in Chicago — a serious room with a serious program, representing living artists and placing work with collectors who range from first-time buyers finding their eye to seasoned patrons building a collection with intent. The gallery is looking for a consultant who can sell art without ever making it feel like selling.
Art is the slowest, most relationship-led sale there is, and this role suits someone who understands that. You will guide collectors through the work, hold the patient conversations that turn interest into acquisition, and represent the gallery at fairs and openings — always as an educator first and a salesperson second.
What you will be responsible for
- Build and nurture relationships with collectors, designers and first-time buyers
- Guide clients through the program with genuine knowledge of the artists and the work
- Represent the gallery at art fairs, openings and private viewings
- Manage the arc of a sale from first interest through placement and after-care, with patience and discretion
- Keep meticulous records of collectors, interests and provenance
What we are looking for
- A genuine eye and genuine curiosity — able to talk about a work with feeling and accuracy
- A critical thinker with taste who reads a room well enough to know when not to push
- Comfortable with the long game of art sales, earning trust over several visits rather than closing on the first
- A background in galleries, auction, design or luxury client work
- Real knowledge of contemporary art — non-negotiable
What the opportunity offers
- A respected program and a beautiful room to work in
- Base salary plus a commission structure that rewards collectors built over time
- A place among people who take the work seriously
